Twilight
These images are from my work at the ICP. Twilight is a short window of light that starts about 20 minutes after sunset and lasts less than a half-hour. The moody mixing of day and artificial light that draws many photographers to shoot at this hour is countered by a series of challenges: having to scout your location (as you can only shoot one picture per evening), the need to tripod your camera, and the unexpected color casts and lens flares due to long exposures. While the images have been reworked to dial out the sulfurous tones of street lighting, the purple skies over Brooklyn and orange skies over Manhattan are an artifact of shooting in a highly illuminated city. This is an ongoing project; this page will be updated monthly as I continue working into summer. Posted on: April 1, 2008. |
