Using Cusco as a point of departure, I spent two weeks travelling through Southern Peru. The more memorable destinations were the villages of Huillo'q, a mudhouse town in which all the residents still retained their full traditional style of dress, and Ollantaytambo, a [flagstone] community of Indian and Mestizo people who thrived because of their proximity to the Incan-engineered canal system. Much thanks to my translator Marcos who was able to bridge my broken Spanish and the local Quechua dialect, and who kept us moving during the transportation strike. Sulpayki.
